Causes of Strawberry Legs

As stated earlier this is a skin appearance and can be caused by a number of stimulus depending on your body. So it’s important you investigate what triggers these spots to appear on your legs. However, below are some of the main causes of strawberry legs.

Shaving

At one point during shaving, you might have experienced razor burn. This is mainly characterized by inflammation, itchiness, pain, and red or black spots. After a while, the inflammation, pain, and itchiness tend to disappear but the spots persist.

During shaving, the razor pulls and twist the hair follicles. These results to them being displaced. Once you heal from the razor burns these follicles remain displaced resulting to some hairs trying to grow under your skin hence the strawberry condition. It’s also important to note that the razor burns are caused by dull razors or not using enough cream.

Folliculitis

This is a light hair follicle infection. Some of its signs and symptoms are red bumps on the skin, pain, and itches. However, this infection sometimes doesn’t cause pain and itches. Hair follicles infection is mainly caused by leaving your hair follicle open as a result of removing your hair, wearing tight clothes and excessive sweating. In general, it’s caused by poor skin hygiene. One you maintain a high level of skin hygiene this infection wears down naturally.

Enlarged Skin Poles

Enlarged skin poles are commonly referred to as the “open comedones” or blackheads. Comedones are mainly experienced on the forehead and the nose. Sometimes dead skin cells and natural oils get trapped in your poles especially on your legs. Due to oxidation this oils and cells appear darker. Thus causing the strawberry legs.

Keratosis Pilaris

This condition mainly appears on your legs or arms and is commonly referred to as the chicken skin. It’s characterized by small and rough bumps appearing on your skin. Although this condition mainly affects most people during winter when they have dry hairs, it can also be caused as a result of spending a lot of time in the pool. Also if you live in an area that experiences dry climate you might get chicken skin.

Dry Skin

When your skin becomes dry, its barrier “skin protector” becomes weak. This leaves your skin exposed to chemicals in shaving products.
